Willows Fanciful Feathers BasketMaterials: Worsted Weight #4 (this pattern requires 2 strands of yarn worked together) Size F and G Hook Tapestry Needle 2 buttons for eyes Stitches: Ch-chain St(s)- stitch(es) Sc- single crochet Hdc- half double crochet Dc- double crochet BLO- back loop only Lp(s)-loop(s) Sl st- slip stitches Scale St(see special sts) Sk- skip Sc dec- single crochet decrease Special Stitches: Scale Stitch: 5 dc down the post of the previous row, ch 1, 5 dc up the next dc of the previous row. Base of basket: F hook Starting with the magic circle, sc 12 (12 sc) Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 1, 2 hdc in the next st, repeat 10 more times, sl st to top of ch 2. (24 hdc) Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in the same st,* hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st*. rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (36 hdc) Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in the same st,* hdc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in the next st*. rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (48 hdc) Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in the same st,* hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the next st*. rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (60 hdc) Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in the same st,* hdc in the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in the next st*. rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (72 hdc) Round 7: Ch 2, hdc in the same st,* hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the next st*. rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (84 hdc) Sides of basket: G hook Round 1: Ch 2, hdc (blo) in the next st and in the next 82 sts(blo) around. (84 hdc) Round 2: Ch 3, dc in the first st and in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (84 dc) Round 3: Ch 1, work 5 dc down post of previous rnd. Ch 1, work 5 dc up post of 2nd dc of previous round (scale made). Sk the next 5 dc, * work 5 dc down post of previous rnd. Ch 1, work 5 dc up post of 2nd dc of previous round * repeat from * to * sl st in top of ch 1 (12 scales) Round 4: Sl st to the 3rd dc of the missed 5 dc in the previous group. Ch 3, dc in same space as sl st, *dc in next 2 dc, dc between 2 dc of scale st, dc in the next 2 dc, * rep from * to * join with sl st top of ch 3. (84 dc) Round 5: Ch 1, do beginning scale st, sk 5 dc, *scale st, sk 5 dc* rep from * to * , sl st to join to top of ch 1. Repeat rows 3 and 4; 3 more times. Change color if desired for head Round 12: Ch 1, sc in the first st and each st around, sl st to top of ch 1. (84 sc) Repeat row 12; 13 more times Change color if desired Round 26 : Ch 2, hdc in the next st and in each st around. (84 hdc) Ears: Ch 8, sc 2nd ch from hook and in the next 6 sts. (7sc) turn Row 2-3 Ch 1, sc in the next st and each st across. (7 sc) turn Row 4: Ch 1, sc dec, sc in the next 3 sts, sc dec. (5 sc) turn Row 5: Ch 1, sc dec, sc in the next st, sc dec. (3 sc) finish off. Nose: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in the next 2 sts, dc in the next st. Finish off Add eyes Add ears by stitching ears to the top of the hdc. I was thinking about this for a house warming gift. You stated hold the yarn double, is this throughout the entire pattern? What type of yarn are you suggesting, wool, cotton, acrylic? Thank you!!

Lara, I used 2 strands of cotton for the bottom and 2 strands of Bernat Satin for the (face) top. My testers used 1 strand of cotton and it stood up fine. I would suggest though that you do use 2 strands on the very bottom portion for stability, if you do decide to use 1 strand,

What is the approximate finished size?

The approx. size is 7 inches high and the diameter is 7.5 inches.
