Starlette Hat -  A Free Crochet Pattern

Introducing the Starlette Hat.  This crochet hat is made from the band up to the top.  I love this hat because of the openness of it. The band can be tied to make the hat have a comfortable fit.  This pattern uses bulky yarn and using the Star Stitch.

Starlette Hat


Materials:
Any bulky or chunky yarn. I used 2 strands of worsted weight. 2 colors
Size L Hook
Darning Needle

Stitches:

Ch-chain
Sl st- slip stitch
Dc- double crochet
Sk-skip
St-stitch

Dc4tog- Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over and
draw through 2 loops] 4 times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook—3 stitches
decreased.

Dc2tog- Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over,
draw through 2 loops] 2 times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook—1 stitch
decreased.
YO-yarn over

Star Stitch - http://crochet.about.com/library/blstar_stitch.htm
CC- Contrast Color

Gauge - 4 x 4 in dc =9 sts and 6 rows

Band (working from the bottom up)
Adult Hat
Ch 77
Row 1:
Sc in the 2nd st and each st across. Ch 1. Turn (76)
Row 2:
Sc in the 2nd st and each st across. Ch 1. Turn(76)
Row 3:
Sc in the 2nd st and in each st across. Finish off (76)
Hat
*Row 1:
With wrong side facing you join CC in the 12th stitch from the right, ch 3. *Sk one
st, dc in the next st, ch 1, * repeat from * to * across to last 11 sts. sl st into the
top of turning ch. Ch 3. Turn (27 dc)
You are now working in the round.
*Row 2:
Draw up a loop in 2nd ch from the hook, draw up a loop in the next st, draw up a
loop in the ch 1 sp, draw up a loop in the next dc, YO and draw through all 5 loops
on the hook, ch 1 (creates the eye of the star, * draw up a loop in the eye of the
star just made, draw up a loop in the last loop on same star st, draw up a loop in
the next ch 1, draw up a loop in the next dc, YO and draw through all 5 loops on
the hook, ch 1 repeat from * around, sl st to top of turning ch. Ch 3. (27 stars)

Repeat rows 1 and 2 four more times from * to *For a total of 10 rows.

Row 11:
Ch 3, * dc4tog, ch 1 in each eye of the star st. repeat * around. Ch 3.(8 -4 dctog)
Row 12:
*dc2tog, ch 1, repeat * around. (4 – 2 dctog)

Finish off. If you want to close the small circle, stitch between the loops between
every st around, pull tight and weave in ends.
