Peeking Fox Basket/Planter Cover

I love foxes as much as I do Owls.  So I decided to make this basket and maybe to do a collection of them. They are fun and easy to make.  I love the way the fox is just peeking out in the pictures!!
Materials:

I Love This Yarn (color A being White and color B being Burnt Pumpkin)

Size F and G Hook

Tapestry Needle

2 buttons for eyes and 1 for the nose

Stitches:

Ch-chain                                              St(s)- stitch(es)

Sc- single crochet                                Dc- double crochet

BLO- back loop only                            Lp(s)-loop(s)

Sl st- slip stitches                                 Sk- skip

Sc dec- single crochet decrease

Base of basket:

Color A

F hook starting with the magic circle, sc 12. (12 sc)

Round 2:

Ch 2, dc in same st as ch 1, 2 dc in the next st, repeat 10 more times, sl st to top of ch 2. (24 dc)

Round 3:

Ch 2, dc in the same st,* dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st*.  rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (36 dc)

Round 4:

Ch 2, dc in the same st,* dc in the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next st*.  rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (48 dc)

Round 5:

Ch 2, dc in the same st,* dc in the next 3 sts, 2 dc in the next st*.  rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (60 dc)

Round 6:

Ch 2, dc in the same st,* dc in the next 4 sts, 2 dc in the next st*.  rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (72 dc)

Round 7:

Ch 2, dc in the same st,* dc in the next 5 sts, 2 dc in the next st*.  rep from * to * sl st to top of ch 2. (84 dc) DO NOT FASTEN OFF

Sides of basket:

G hook  and Color B

Round 1: (Chains at beginning count as a stitch and sl st to join at the end of each row to the starting ch.)

Ch 2, dc (blo) in the next st and in the next 82 sts(blo) around. (84 dc)

The following rows you will make the lemon peel stitch or seed stitch. With this stitch you alternate between the sc and dc and do so all the way around.  On the next row, you will start with a dc into the first sc and then a sc into the dc, all the way around.  Keep doing this repeated pattern.

Round 2:

Color B Ch 1,* sc in the next st, dc in the next st*, repeat from * to *in the next 26 sts, change to color A , sc in the next st, dc in the next st, repeat from * to * in the next 26 sts, change to color B, sc in the next st, dc in the next st, repeat from * to * for the next 25 sts.  Turn (84 sts)

Round 3:

Color B Ch 1,* dc in the next st, sc in the next st*, repeat from * to *in the next 26 sts, change to color A , dc in the next st, sc in the next st, repeat from * to * in the next 26 sts, change to color B, dc in the next st, sc in the next st, repeat from * to * for the next 25 sts.  Turn (84 sts)

Repeat this pattern until the side measure approx. 7” or 18 rows.  You can make it taller by adding more rounds.

Row 19:

Ch 1, sc in the next st and into each st around. (84 sc)  Finish off.

Starting at the right side where the orange and white meet is where you will sl st to start the face with Color B.

That is so stinkin cute! My mom tried to teach me how to crochet years ago, but I never caught on. All I can do is the chain stitch.

That's one craft I've never learned to do. I used to know how to knit, but never crochet. Darn it.
