It's my turn to host the square this week for the Mystery Lapghan CAL.   This the the very first square That I have ever designed.  I really enjoyed the process and with the help of testers, I think I finally have it good to go.

Pattern is written in US terms

Size

6” square

 Materials

4 colors worsted/aran/weight category 4 yarn

(I used Bernat Satin.  You may want to go down to crochet hook size H/8/5.00 hook if using RHSS or I Love This Yarn)

Crochet hook size I/9/5.50mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Darning needle to weave in ends



Abbreviations:

ch(s)-chain(s)

sp(s)-space(s)

sl st – slip stitch

st(s)-stitch(es)

sc-single crochet

hdc-half double crochet

dc-double crochet

tr-treble crochet

FPtr-front post treble crochet

3 dc cl - 3 double crochet cluster


4 dc cl - 4 double crochet cluster

sk-skip

rep-repeat

Notes:
I used Bernat Satin and an I hook; my testers used I Love This Yarn and Red Heart Super Saver.  You may want to go down a hook size to get the measurements.

Gauge

After Rnd 2, piece should measure 2 1/4”   After Rnd 4 it should be 4 inches

 

  Ch4, sl st to last ch to form circle

Rnd 1:

ch 4, counts as dc and ch 1  (dc, ch 1) into center of circle 7 more times. sl st to join to 3rd ch of ch 4. sl st over to the 1st ch 1 sp. (8dc and 8ch1) finish off and change color

 

Rnd 2:

ch 3 (counts as dc) 3 dc cl in same sp, *ch 3, 4 dc cl in next ch 1 sp*, rep. 6 more times, ch 3, sl st to top of ch 4 dc cl, sl st over to the first ch 3 sp.  Piece should measure 2 ¼ inches. (8 - 4 dc cl, 8 ch 3 sps) finish off and change color.  Should measure 2 1/4"

 

Rnd 3:

Ch 1, sc in same sp, *ch 5, sc in the next ch 3 sp*, rep 7 more times, sl st to join into the 1st ch 5 sp.  (8 ch 5 sps)

 

Rnd 4:

(Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc , ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch 5 sp, *4 dc into the next ch 5 sp, (3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 5 sp, rep 2 more times; 4 dc in last ch 5 sp; sl st to join in ch 3, sl st over to 1st ch 2 (corner). Finish off and change color (40 dc)  Should be 4 inches

 

Rnd 5:

Ch 4 (counts as tr), (2tr ch 3, 3 tr) in ch 3 sp, *dc in the next 3 sts, FPtr into the next 4 dc, dc in the next 3 sts, (3 tr, ch 3, 3 tr) into the next ch 3 sp*, rep 2 more times; dc in next 3 sts, FPtr over next 4 sts, dc in last 3 sts; join. Sl st top top of ch 4. Finish off and change color (76 sts)

 

Rnd 6:

Ch 2 (counts as hdc) hdc in the next st and in each st with 4 hdc into each corner. Sl st to top of ch 2 (80 hdc) finish off and change color

 

Rnd 7:

Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st around. Sl st to join top of sc. (80 sc)
