Crochet Christmas Gumdrop Tutu- A Free Crochet Pattern

Christmas Gumdrops Tutu
Christmas Gumdrop Tutu is a free crochet pattern in size 12 months for you all to enjoy!!  I love the looks of a tutu on little girls.  It makes them feel special and THEY look special!! Christmas is just one of those holidays that people take pictures like crazy!!  I wish I had crocheted back when my 2 daughters were little.  Maybe one day, a granddaughter will wear one of these!!  :-)

12 Months

Materials:

I Love This Yarn ( Christmas Sparkle)

Size H Hook

4 Buttons

Tapestry Needle

Tulle - I used the tulle you can get from Walmart.  I used 5 of the tulle that measures 4 inches wide by 25 yards.

Ribbon - about 5 feet for the waistline and approx. 5 feet for the neck.

Stitches:

Ch- chain

St(s)-stitch(es)

Sl st-slip stitch

Sk- skip

Sc – single crochet

Dc –double crochet

Rep- repeat

 Special Stitches:

Shell – Sc , ch 2, 4 dc in indicated stitch

Gauge:  Dc  4 in x 4 in = 14 sts by 10 rows

Ch 82

Sc 2nd ch from the hook, ch 2, 4 dc in same st., *sk next 3, shell in the next st, rep across from * to last 4 sts, sc in the last ch., ch 3 turn.

Row 2:

2 dc into sc, *shell into ch 2 sp, rep from * across to last ch 2 sp, sc into last ch 2 sp, ch 3, turn

Row 3:

2 dc into sc, *shell into ch 2 sp, rep from * across to turning ch 3, sc into 3rd ch of turning ch, ch 3, turn.

Repeat row 3;   13  more times.

Finish off, weave in ends.

The visible shell edge will be the top of the tutu.  I wanted it this way to use as a design.
Skip 9 of the shells and add ribbon for the neckline, using the same method in the pictures below.

Sew your 4 buttons onto the back of the tutu starting at the bottom. *Skip 3 rows, next row add a button, repeat * to the top.

For tulle, cut tulle into 22 inches long by 4 inch wide strips. Fold tulle in half and add tulle to the dress following the pictures below!

You are now finished with the Christmas Gumdrop Tutu.

I would like to know if this can be made into a larger size and how does one go around doing it.

Thank you

Ruth, it can be made in a bigger size. It is multiples of 4+2 to the starting chain. And make longer rows to the desired size. I hope this helps! :-)

I love this dress. Would you have any idea how many multiples I would need to add to make this for a 3 T size?

You will be using 4 buttons to close it Brenda. It tells you in the written instructions where to place the buttons.

This is so pretty! I will have to make at least one! I don't have any girls in my immediate family but I'm sure I can find one that will like it! Thanks for the free pattern!

This is just lovely! Could you share with me about how much yarn it took to make this dress? I have a stash and would like to see if I have the right amount already. Thanks so much for sharing!

Love this pattern, I was excited to be able to start it. But like a lot of us crocheters we have to many projects in the fire. I now have it started but I'm confused with the tulle to use. It said to use 5 rolls of 25 yards each, I'm thinking that you had the tulle in every two chain at the bottom that only used less then a roll. Help what am i doing wrong?

I used about 4 or 5 pieces at a time for a full skirt. You can use as many strips as you would like for your acquired taste.

In order for the dress to fit a 12 month old what is your gauge? And when I add the tulle do I add the tulle to the chain 3 space, the chain that the shell stitch is in or both?

The gauge is listed above for the bodice. Yes add the tulle through every 3 ch space.

I am making this dress now. I am hoping it turns out as beautiful. I have decided to try my hand at a princess sleeve of some sort. We will see how it works. Thank you for the gorgeous pattern!

This pattern is precious!! I've seen lots of questions for increasing the size, but do you have any tips for making it smaller? I have a neice due in March, and I was thinking this would be an adorable dress for photos.

This is soooo pretty! I can't wait to try making it! I have a grandbaby due in a few months - it better be a girl! Or the wee lad is going to look a bit silly... ;) Seriously, I wish I'd had this pattern when my 12 year old granddaughter was wee! After the work you put in figuring it out, it was generous of you to share it with us. Thank you so much! x

THANK YOU. I have finished it in a night and it worked perfectly. My daughter has a princess dress for tomorrow. I did change the pattern slightly as she is 3 years old.
